Miata Update: I Crashed It

Less than 24  hours after buying the miata, I crashed it on I95N in CT. However, nobody was hurt even the miata lol literally a couple scratches but it had those already. Here’s what happened:

Passing a semi on the left, suddenly black ice as far as I can see. Fishtail #1, recovered but then let off gas to stop passing semi and get back to the middle lane without ice. Fishtail #2, recovered again but now actually worried and slowly applying brakes. No luck, fishtail #3 put me in an unrecoverable 30 degree slide towards the middle barrier, I tapped the middle barrier and did a single 360 before stopping at about 45 degrees off of straight.

Called 911, a safety truck got to me first, salt trucks went by over the ice, then the police cleared me to back up and align with the road. Checked everything I could and just kinda... drove on. 10 years ago I did a similar thing in a 2002 Eclipse with the same results. 2030 will be interesting.

Anyway, I gave the miata its first Svending to get rid of the road trip salt.

Gotta love some adventure! At least this is a good story.

Lol this thing will never see 9/10ths driving unless I put serious money into refreshing it in a few years. It's just for fun and taking miles off the Cayman.

Yeah luckily it's already a 20ft car so scratches aren't my worry. Totaling it 12 hours after purchase would have been shit.

A mate and me had just got back from Scotland where we swapped a BMW E46 M3 coupe for a BMW E46 tourer, on the final stretch to meeting his fiancee to discuss wedding details at the hotel, some a-hole chose to use a petrol station forecourt as a short cut, mate hit the brakes and a car went into the back of him, very little damage, but meant he was late to meet his fiancee at the hotel,she was glad he was okay but annoyed because she didn't know he was getting another car. She calmed down after hearing it was a straight swap at the dealership, which it was (plus £1,000, but she wasn't getting told that bit).

I was worried but I had a good reason and the bill of sale. It never came up though, I don't know if he even ran it.

Yeah 2020 is getting treacherous.

On my commute home from work last night during a snow/sleet/ice storm, there were a few inches of accumulation on the unplowed back roads that my Volvo even with new winter tires , struggled to find grip on. Didn’t do any spins but the car was hunting left and right for traction pretty much the whole 40 miles home.

I’ve done that almost the same,  but I was in a Datsun 240z and took out a row of mail boxes on my way into the ditch.

I had this happen to me in an ‘87 Fleetwood during a snowstorm. Everyone was crawling around at about 15 MPH on a busy stretch of road. The rear end just decided to spin out. I did a full 360 and ended up facing forward again and kept driving. Almost like it never happened.
